When we talk about a gastronomic destination or tourism, we are essentially referring to a subcategory of cultural tourism (gastronomy is considered a cultural expression) in which travelers seek to experience unique gastronomic experiences, and is one of the greater trends in the world. Gastronomy is a tourist product for Greece, with a wide variety of ingredients and traditional recipes. Gastronomic destination is considered a destination (settlement, city, country) that stands out for its local cuisine, has made it a tourist attraction and invites interested tourists to visit and receive special gastronomic experiences.
Inside gastronomic tourism it is important to mention both the food photo and the decoration of food, because it is an important factor for attracting tourists with the food photography and food styling. Also, the photo of the food plays an important role because we observe that more and more users – regardless of gender and age – upload gastronomy photos on social media. Photos of the dishes of a restaurant are their image outward and our time is considered the “era of image”. It is just a very good reason for the restaurant to take seriously how they will immortalize and edit their dishes before they are released online.
Equally important role also plays food styling. Food photographs of a restaurant contribute to the promotion and marketing plan of the restaurant. They are used on various social media, such as Facebook, Instagram, restaurant’s website, etc. and are a source of advertising. During a photo shoot the utensil must be clean and free from any fingerprints, splashes of sauce, etc. Before clicking, make sure everything is perfect. Meat, for example, may look better in the middle so that its pink interior color and vegetables or vegetable colors come to life and give a nice tone to the photo.
