Macedonia abounds with mountains and ski centers that each season are a major destination for lovers of winter sports whether it is for beginners or professionals. Mavrovo, PopovaShapka and Krushevo are just few of the offer and therefore I’ll continue with them.

Let`s start from Mavrovo, the most popular ski resort both for domestic and foreign visitors. Ski Center “ZareLazarevski” is located on the slopes of the mountain “Bistra” on 1240 altitude it is a part of the National Park “Mavrovo” dates from 1964 when the first tracks and ski lifts were built. Today it is the most equipped ski resort in Macedonia for lovers of alpine and Nordic skiing. Special attraction adds nighttime skiing followed by music and entertainment. Of course there are discos that offer excellent entertainment in the evening and night hours. Accommodation in hotels is on high level but you can also find a cheap accommodation in private houses. There are the events that are regularly held such as international competition in Nordic skiing, amateur humanitarian giant slalom, national and international competitions in slalom and giant slalom, the European Snowboarding Cup and the attraction “Snow City”.

PopovaShapka is one of the oldest and largest ski resorts in Macedonia, which dates from 1947 and is situated on the slopes of one of the highest mountains in Macedonia, SharPlanina. Situated at an altitude of 1,800 meters, it is characterized by many sunny days with snow cover suitable for quality skiing from late November to April. The ski center has several cable cars and ski lifts, whose total length is 11,000 meters, with a capacity of 8,000 skiers per hour. The total length of ski slopes is about 20 km and the ski area extends over 35 square kilometers. The ski trails are suitable for all levels of skiing, from beginners to professional free-ride adventures. The center has three paths, according to FIS-criteria, which is held each year the international “Sharplaninski Cup” slalom and giant slalom.

Do not forget the Krushevo, small town with a rich history, architecture and beautiful scenery. Krushevo offers excellent conditions for skiing from December to early March. The ski slopes are located next to the city at an altitude of 1400 meters. It is suitable for professionals and beginners skiers.
